Dental Sealants
At North Bethesda Dental Associates, we welcome patients of all ages, and are particularly keen to ensure children have a great experience in order to ensure long-term oral health. Despite parents’ best efforts, children often are susceptible to getting cavities on the chewing surfaces of their back teeth as it’s difficult to keep those clean, even with regular brushing.
After a comprehensive dental exam, if our Rockville dentists see a high chance of your child developing cavities in their teeth, they may recommend dental sealants.
Sealants are plastic resin coatings that are painted onto the surface of your child’s back teeth to smooth out the teeth and make them easier to brush. Sealants also create a protective barrier to prevent food and bacteria from penetrating the tooth.

Sealant treatment is painless and doesn’t usually require any anesthetic. Sealants can last up to 10 years if cared for properly by brushing and flossing regularly and can help reduce tooth decay by up to 80%.

Adults aged 20 to 34 have more untreated cavities in their back teeth than any other age group—as a result, young adults may also benefit from dental sealants.
