Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy is required when the soft tissue containing nerves, blood vessels and connective tissues (known as the pulp) is damaged. This can happen if there is infection of the tooth or gums, decay or an injury/trauma.
When the innermost part of the tooth is damaged, it can be extremely painful, so it’s important to get treated as soon as possible to ensure we can save the affected tooth and prevent the spread of infection if there is one. Root canal treatment removes the infected pulp and the tooth is cleaned and restored, usually with a crown to restore its function and appearance.
Symptoms to look out for include:
-
Severe tooth pain
-
Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
-
A pimple-like bump or swelling on your gums or near your tooth
Early diagnosis can often prevent tooth loss and reduce discomfort and pain if treated promptly so we highly advise you to make an appointment as soon as you can if you experience any of these symptoms and share any concerns you have with one of your Rockville dentists.
